TESTIMONALS
“What a thoroughly enjoyable experience. From the very beginning of our commission, Rachel offered a completely bespoke approach to the brief given. She used unique colours to synergise with the project scheme and custom measurements to fit the location of the artwork perfectly. Throughout the entire process, Rachel offered personable advice and even helped us source a professional fitter to install the piece. Our clients were over the moon and felt they had gained an asset to their home and something to be passed down generations. We can’t wait for our next commission!”

“We have been waiting years to find the right artwork for a large space in our hallway. Rachel worked with myself and my father to create a beautiful painting inspired by our wedding flowers. The only tricky part is it was commissioned to be ready as a gift on our wedding day so she had to use our florists mood boards instead of any pictures. She sketched three different variations and was so flexible with us in the decision making, nothing was too much to ask.
We wanted specific framing and Rachel put a lot of effort in to ensure she had the correct paper type to make this possible which we really appreciated.
The outcome was the most stunning artwork that took our breath away.
Every guest comments on it as they walk into our home. The colours Rachel used depicted our flowers perfectly… a painting that evokes such happy memories which we will treasure forever.
Thank you Rachel you are so talented and lovely with it throughout the process.”

The Process
How does commissioning a piece work? Is there a standard process?
On the whole, a client gets in touch with an idea for a room or space. That could be wanting an abstract painting of their wedding flowers like for Becci above or a meadow scene to hang above their bed. In instances like this, where there’s a clear concept and space in mind, I’ll ask what sort of size and whether that includes the frame or not. It’s important to get that decided because the scale informs the quote – a 90x90cm framed piece means a 70x70cm artwork. But in cases where the client isn’t sure of what they want, I suggest they look through my archive and send pictures of what they like and why. Then we’ll draw out other things they like such as blankets and vases plus photos of the room the piece will be going in so I can create something inspired by all the things they love that’s tailored to the space in which it will be hung.
As soon as they’re comfortable with the process, direction and quote, I ask for full payment. I’ll then create a mock-up of their artwork for us to discuss and refine. Some take multiple tweaks, others take little to none, and the whole thing takes between 4-6 weeks. I can also send pictures as the piece develops so a client can watch their art evolving if they don’t want to wait until delivery day to see it taking shape!
Do you paint any subject or is it largely florals?
My commissions have varied widely and wonderfully from people and pets through to landscapes and seashells. I’ll never take on a commission that I didn’t think I’d do a good job of and will always be honest if a client suggests something to which I think another artist might be better suited.
Is there starting cost for a commission?
Pricing is entirely bespoke, just like the process and the end result. They can start from as little as £100 and naturally go up to thousands pounds depending on the size and complexity. Payment in instalments is possible too to make things as comfortable as possible.
How long does it take from initial chat to finished piece?
Again, it totally depends on how long we go back and forth for, as some clients like to bounce ideas gradually over the course of a few months whereas others hit the ground running. Once the concept is decided and payment is made, I get painting and that is where the 4-6 week timeframe comes in.
Is framing part of the process?
It certainly can be. I have a fabulous local framer who I work with so that your artwork arrives to you completed finished and ready to hang. Naturally this means additional framing and shipping costs.
Do you do commissions worldwide?
Absolutely, from the US to Germany, I’ve done commissions far and wide. My only stipulation is that I don’t ship glass overseas – the risk of breakages is too great and I like to be certain when I post my commissions that they’ll arrive in an absolute perfect state.
